New Supervisor Monica Montgomery Steppe was sworn in this morning during a brief event at the County Administration Center, before the 10 a.m. Board of Supervisors meeting. Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer, who was visibly excited watching her friend and new colleague being sworn in, provided the following thoughts after the ceremony:

“Supervisor Monica Montgomery Steppe brings a thoughtful approach to governing, significant experience, and deep ties to the San Diego community, making her unlike anyone who has ever represented the residents of District 4 on the Board of Supervisors,” said Supervisor Lawson-Remer, Vice Chair of the Board of Supervisors. “I am excited to work with her and eager to see what we are able to accomplish. The diversity and perspectives now on this Board have never been stronger, and we will be a better government and county because of it.”

Upon review of the historical list of members of the Board of Supervisors  (click here), it is the first time that the Board of Supervisors is majority women.

Supervisor Montgomery Steppe’s swearing-in also restores the Democratic majority on the Board of Supervisors.
