The County of San Diego is acquiring 100 shelter cabins for homeless San Diegans, and model shelters were on display Friday.

In November, the county developed a sleeping cabin program and will soon make the cabins available to organizations that qualify.

Two different sizes of the Pallet shelters were shown at the county administration building: a 70-square-foot model and a 120-square-foot model.

Next week, County Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer will introduce a policy that would make county land available for homeless shelters, potentially including the Pallet shelters.

“There is no single solution to helping people who are homeless, and the small shelters serve as one of the tools we can use. They are good transitional places for people to stay and receive the support they need before moving into a permanent living situation,” Terra Lawson-Remer is quoted as saying in a news release.
