On June 12 at Point Loma High, more than 100 children and adults rode away to Point Loma, Ocean Beach, and other neighborhoods with new bicycle helmets thanks to Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer and the County of San Diego, Scripps Health, the San Diego Bike Coalition, Point Loma Rotary Club, and Ride the Point.

The event featured interactive presentations on bike safety from local experts, offering attendees valuable insights and practical advice for navigating roadways safely. Alongside the helmet giveaway by Scripps, representatives from the San Diego Bicycle Coalition provided guidance and resources to encourage safe cycling habits among families.

“Riding your bike to the beach, school or work helps reduce carbon emissions, but when you’re doing it safety is extremely important,” said Lawson-Remer, vice chair of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors. “We hope everyone left our event with a greater understanding of how riding their bike helps us tackle climate change and how they can stay safe when using their bicycle for travel or recreation.”

Following the success of this bike safety session and a similar event in Carlsbad last month, Lawson-Remer announced plans to continue holding additional helmet promotions and safety events throughout the County.

“It was wonderful to see so many young cyclists excited to ride with their new helmets and safety tips,” said Supervisor Lawson-Remer. “With the support of our partners, I’m optimistic we can maintain this momentum and bring these safety events to more families across our region.”
