San Diego County Kicks off Pride Month with "Shine Bright with Pride" Hosted by Chairwoman Vargas and Vice Chair Lawson-Remer
San Diego County officially launched Pride Month today with the "Shine Bright With Pride" event, hosted by Chairwoman Nora Vargas, Vice Chair Terra Lawson-Remer, and the San Diego County LGBTQIA Employee Resource Group. The event was a vibrant display of community solidarity and recognition of LGBTQIA+ contributions.
"As a County, we are committed to elevating and increasing visibility for our LGBTQ+ community and county employees, with the hope that communities of all types can come together and build a future that we can all be proud of," said Chairwoman Nora Vargas, Board of Supervisors. "While there is still much work to be done to uplift our LGBTQIA+ communities, I am looking forward to collaborating with our local organizations, county staff, and stakeholders to create a brighter future for everyone in San Diego County."
“We have been fighting for LGBTQ+ rights and equality and I am proud of the progress we’ve made,” said Supervisor Lawson-Remer, Vice Chair, Board of Supervisors. “Tonight’s activities are more than a celebration; they are a reminder that we must continue defending our values and fight back against those who try to eliminate our constitutionally-protected rights. I’m proud to serve a County that values and uplifts the voices of LGBTQ+ individuals.”
The supervisors kicked off the event with the raising of the Progress Flag, followed by the presentation of awards to distinguished LGBTQIA+ leaders. These awards acknowledged their significant contributions to San Diego County and celebrated the strides made by LGBTQIA+ employees within the county.
Following the flag-raising, several distinguished LGBTQIA+ leaders were honored for their outstanding efforts in promoting equality and fostering a more inclusive community.
The evening culminated with the illumination of the County Administration Center building, a symbolic gesture representing the bright and vibrant spirit of San Diego's LGBTQIA+ community. The colorful display highlights the county's dedication to diversity and marks the official commencement of Pride Month festivities.
