Supervisor Lawson-Remer Reiterates Commitment to Support City Shelter Efforts with County Services
Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer, who supports clearing homeless encampments and moving people into shelters where they can receive treatment and help, reiterated her commitment to support the City of San Diego’s efforts to expand homelessness shelters with the help of County behavioral health services.
“We know that getting people off the streets and into shelters is just the first step; we also need to provide treatment and resources for people struggling with mental health or addiction issues,” said Supervisor Lawson-Remer, Vice Chair, Board of Supervisors.
“Some unhoused have co-occurring mental health and substance abuse problems that are exacerbated by living on the street. I am committed to working with the County of San Diego Behavioral Health Department to develop a plan with the City to deliver behavioral health services at new City shelters.”
The County of San Diego over the last three-and-a-half years has invested in more than 900 shelters across the region, including some it supported in partnership with the City of San Diego.
