My comments on the comments
In my role as acting Chair of the Board of Supervisors, I’m looking forward to a fresh start in working with the public to ensure everyone is treated with respect and dignity.
I discussed that recently (more below), but first, thank you to everyone who has done so much to help L.A. fire victims. This week, I heard from the community with more ways to help. Here’s one for you to consider:
Help Out LA!
The American Legion, the nation’s largest and oldest veterans service organization, has opened posts across San Diego County to accept help for Los Angeles-area fire victims.
They are accepting donations at the following locations:

● La Mesa Post 282 (8118 University Ave, La Mesa, CA 91942)
● Escondido Post 149 (230 E Park Ave, Escondido, CA 92025)
● National City Post 255 (35 E 18th St, National City, CA 91950)
● Vista Post 365 (1234 S Santa Fe Ave, Vista, CA 92084)
● Lemon Grove Post 201 (8015 Broadway, Lemon Grove, CA 91945)
● Santee Post 364 (8516 Magnolia Ave #203, Santee, CA 92071)
The public is encouraged to contribute the following essential items:
● Toothbrushes and toothpaste
● Baby wipes
● Bath towels
● Feminine hygiene products
● Toilet paper
● Eye contact lens solution
● Mouthwash
● Hair brushes
● Diaper rash cream
● Diapers
● Grocery store and restaurant gift cards
This is an option for you to consider to help. For more information about this donation effort or to locate the nearest drop-off site, you can contact The American Legion at mn.vicmartin@gmail.com.
My Comments on Public Comment
After a Board meeting last week, I met with members of the public to hear their thoughts about how we can serve them better. The conversation largely focused on the procedures for making public comments during a meeting.
We also discussed how to make sure people are fairly and equally informed about how to participate, such as creating a video on the rules and procedures of hearings that is played at the beginning of a meeting.
With my colleagues, I will keep exploring ways to make it clear how the public can participate in public hearings.
