Description

Community members will once again gather Thursday morning outside the federal building in downtown San Diego as part of an ongoing, peaceful weekly action calling for due process, transparency, and accountability amid growing concern that the federal government is operating without adequate oversight or respect for constitutional limits.

The sustained weekly action comes amid renewed national attention following the widely reported fatal shooting of Renée Nicole Good, a U.S. citizen and mother, by a federal ICE agent in Minneapolis — intensifying public concern about a broader pattern of federal enforcement actions creating lawlessness and chaos carried out without sufficient accountability.

San Diego County Board Chair Terra Lawson-Remer, who has helped convene and support the ongoing Thursday morning demonstrations, will not attend this week’s action but issued a statement reaffirming her support for peaceful civic engagement and the rule of law.

“When the federal government ignores due process and responds to public concern with deflection instead of accountability, it isn’t enforcing the law — it’s eroding it,” said Lawson-Remer. “No one, including the federal government, is above the Constitution.”

Lawson-Remer is leading the County’s CLEAR Ordinance to strengthen civil rights protections and has supported federal legislation requiring immigration enforcement officers to clearly identify themselves during enforcement actions.
