If you have a kid, know a kid, or have ever watched a group of middle schoolers fly past you on e-bikes and thought, “Wow, that seems fast” - you aren’t alone. 

E-bikes give young people freedom, independence, and a pretty great way to get around.

They also give onlookers and parents heart palpitations.

That’s why we launched our free E-Bike Safety Series: to make sure young riders have the skills, confidence, and common sense to enjoy that freedom safely.

Three Classes. 150 Kids. A Lot of Helmets.

So far, more than 150 kids have signed up to spend their Saturday with us in hands-on safety classes—and the response has made one thing very clear:

Families want help navigating this.

Some parents have come to our trainings after buying what they thought was an e-bike, only to learn it was actually an e-moto—a faster vehicle with different rules that may not be street legal. They came because they were trying to do the right thing and needed straight answers.

So we’ve taken our safety campaign on the road. All summer, my team has been at dozens of concerts, farmers markets, and community events across the district—and parents keep stopping by because they want straight answers: What did we buy? Where can my child ride it? What rules apply?

At our classes, kids learn how to handle their bikes, follow the rules of the road, and make safer decisions.

Every participant also goes home with a free, properly fitted helmet—because a helmet only works when it fits and actually makes it onto your kid’s head.

A Training Today Keeps the Doctor Away

Doctors at Rady Children's Hospital have reported a dramatic increase in serious e-bike injuries. This prompted our County Public Officer to issue a Public Health Alert to help families understand the risks. 

As a result, we're already seeing these conversations spread beyond our classes. Schools, physicians, community organizations, and local governments are all working together to make riding safer. 

This is exactly the kind of momentum we hoped to create.
