San Diego County Chair Lawson-Remer Responds to President Trump
After President Trump said, “Let ’em take out Los Angeles. Let ’em take out San Diego,” Chair Terra Lawson-Remer issued the following statement:
“My grandfather was a Marine. He died fighting for our country. San Diegans are sailors and soldiers, workers and families, Democrats and Republicans — more than three million Americans who make this country stronger.
Our job as elected officials is to protect all of us, to keep all of us safe, to fight for the ideals and values that underpin our nation’s founding — and to strive every day to be America on our best day.
We can disagree with each other, but at the end of the day, a President’s first duty is to bring Americans together and to protect every one of us. When the Commander in Chief talks about San Diego being ‘taken out’ by other countries with whom we’re at war, he is not fit to lead. Trump is a traitor to our security, to our values, and to our Country.
San Diego County knows what patriotism looks like. We also know what authoritarianism looks like.”
